HSK 3.0 vs the old HSK: where does your old level land?

Your old level doesn't map cleanly

The old HSK had six levels. The new standard has nine. So "I passed HSK 4" doesn't translate into a single new level — the bands were redrawn, and the vocabulary requirements shifted.

A rough way to think about it

• The old HSK 1–2 roughly cover the new levels 1–2 (elementary).
• The old HSK 3–4 spread across the new levels 3–5 (intermediate) — with more vocabulary expected than before.
• The old HSK 5–6 map into the new levels 6–9 (advanced), where translation and handwriting come in.

Treat this as orientation, not a certificate. The only reliable way to know where you stand is a placement test built on the new syllabus.
